My 2 rainbows are driving me to distraction lately. Cheeky the girl is appears to be bullying Mojo the boy. She stands over him, sometimes without making any sounds while he practically lies on his back in the corner of the cage and makes the most awful squarking noise. They do this most of the day. I've tried separating them but they just call for each other. Cheeky also won't let Mojo come near us, she chases him away if he tries to come close. When they are both out of the cage she's not as bad but still pushes him away if he gets too close to me unless he gets to me first. She is also very nippy to the point where she's lunging. Is this normal lorikeet behaviour or is something else going on?

Hi Silvercloud
This is a common problem with most pet birds as the birds bond to the owner and consider the owner there mate this is why its hard to pair them up as breeders
Try removing Cheeky from the cage and putting her in a cage next ti Mojo for a while then re introduce Cheekt in to Mojo's cage after a couple of weeks This way your introducing Cheeky in to Mojo terratory and she should stop picking on him !!!!

I tried that and it works for a few days then all the noise starts again. I bought them together when they were about 6 months old and they'd been together before that too. Mojo chose me when we all first met and I don't think she's forgiven him for that LOL.

I would say this is fairly normal lorikeet behaviour! My red collared pair almost kill each other sometimes. Even when they preen each other they will deliberately poke the other in the eye and then start a brawl. The noise levels sometimes are unbearable too, its all part of enjoying lorikeets!
