WOW, look how cute they are !!! Is there usually a long time inbetween hatchings? Can you put quails into the bottom of any cage or do certain birds attack them? I love the babies, they look just like little bundles of fluff

Your having alot of luck this weekend LB! Tankara I find that the quail will nest as soon as they consider the babies independent, and sometimes before. I have had some parrots eat the quail which is disturbing, I would recommend them in the bottom of aviaries that house finches, canaries, budgies, cockateils etc. I do not house them with lorikeets or large parrots who have on occasions killed or eaten them.

All the eggs hatched at the same time. The 2 that didn't hatch were duds... Ohh well 6 out of 8 is great anyway... ;D

I almost lost a baby today. I don't think it was feeding or got sat on last night, the poor thing was cold and hungry. I put it inside, next to a lamp and feed it some egg and buscuit. When I got home from Matt and Peters place and it was running around like nothing happened... Thank god for that... I was so glad it made it...

Wow they are soooo cute!! I didnt relaise they hatched like chickens!(with feathers ect) I should have known hey, lol. I have been thinking about getting a couple for the bottom of my avairy, but still not sure. it is a raised avairy and when i clean it out, and remove the tray it only has a wire bottom, so dont know how they go with that? It not like it wire bottom all the time though I guess>?

Thanks for that Matt.
I'm thinking in my 8ft avery of having tiels, red rumps and quails. As far as I have read, they all will go together and not fight .. to much anyway.

They can die very easy when they are still young! Hope all goes well with the rest!

Sad to hear some have died! Are you sure they are eating properly? Sometimes they can be difficult. In reply to the red rumps, I would recomment keeping them separate from other birds especially when breeding, but Oaklee might know a little better as he has a fair bit more experience with them. I have once housed them in an aviary 5 metres long and 2 metres wide with a few weeros and they were fine except for a bit of squabbling.
